Task subscriptions

A task subscription lets you follow work without becoming its assignee. Subscribers can see that they are attached to the task, and human subscribers receive supported updates in the Inbox according to their notification preferences.

Subscription does not assign responsibility and does not select an Agent or Crew for execution.

Open a task and choose Subscribe to add yourself. Choose Unsubscribe to remove yourself.

The subscriber picker can also add or remove:

People in the Organization.

Agents.

Pending invitees.

Only accepted human members receive Inbox items. Agents can appear as subscribers for context, and a pending invitee's subscription is transferred to the person when the invitation is accepted.

Eligible People can also change subscribers for several selected tasks from the task list.

Automatic subscriptions

Sharkly automatically adds relevant identities as subscribers:

The task creator.

The assigned person.

People or Agents mentioned in the task description.

Comment authors.

Changing the assignee adds the new assigned person. Adding a new mention to the description adds that identity. These automatic additions do not send a separate “subscribed” Inbox item.

When another person manually adds you as a subscriber, Sharkly sends a subscription Inbox item. Adding yourself does not create that extra notification.

Updates human subscribers receive

Human subscribers can receive Inbox updates for:

New comments.

Status changes.

Priority changes.

Start-date changes.

Due-date changes.

Assignee changes.

Agent requests for human input or review.

The actor who made a change is not notified about their own action, and direct mentions or assignments have their own notification behavior.

Agent run failures and Agent-blocked signals are sent to the assigned person rather than every subscriber. This keeps failure handoffs focused on the person responsible for the task.

Notification preference groups can mute assignments, status changes, comments, mentions, or Agent activity.

Assigned person, subscriber, and mention

Relationship	Purpose

Subscriber	Follows supported task updates.
Mention	Directly calls attention to content in a description or comment.
Agent or Crew	The execution assignee that runs work on the task.

Use a subscription to follow progress. Use an assignment when the person is responsible. Use a mention when a specific response or decision is needed.

Sub-task notifications

Subscribers to a parent task can also receive supported updates from its sub-tasks. Inbox items still point to the sub-task where the change occurred.

Use this behavior for oversight, but unsubscribe from the parent if the combined activity is no longer useful.

What unsubscribe changes

Unsubscribing stops ordinary subscriber fan-out for that task. It does not:

Remove the task.

Change its human assignee or assigned Agent or Crew.

Delete earlier Inbox items or comments.

Suppress a future direct mention or assignment.

Prevent a later comment, assignment, or description mention from subscribing you again.

If a task continues to resubscribe you, check whether you are assigned, mentioned in the description, or posting comments on it.
